At 215 feet, Taughannock Falls is one of the highest free-falling waterfalls east of the Rocky Mountains. The falls can be reached by taking the 3/4 mile hike from the park entrance up Taughannock Creek over a flat, broad, high-walled gorge.

The name "Taughannock" originates either from the Delaware Indian Chief Taughannock or the Delaware Indian word taghkanic ("great fall in the woods").

The photo enclosed was taken from the Gorge floor, on the approach to the falls.

The Park is located near the Village of Trumansburg, in the Township of Ulysses, about 8 miles north of Ithaca, NY on Route 89.
